Our Love Story
It all started with two prayers and a mutual friend
Nov 8,2019In 2019, both Karen and Güven had a strong desire to be married. One October night in La Spezia, Italy Karen asked the Lord if she could meet her husband soon. Güven was also praying at that time and had confided in their mutual friend Gökhan Kaya that he would like to get married. In November 2019 Gökhan arranged for Güven to text Karen and on November 8th, 2019 for the very first time.
Dating during a Pandemic
Güven and Karen started talking almost everyday in 2019. With the eight-nine hour time difference they made it work. They watched movies, baked lasagna, and shared life together through texts and video calls. With travel restrictions starting in 2020, it was difficult not knowing when they would meet in person. Güven was very sweet and would send Karen flowers, presents from Lush, and edible arrangements for special occasions and 'just because'. There were ups and downs during this time but in the end it was a time of preparation for both of them.
Engagement
Nov 26,2021On November 19, 2021 ( two years after the first text) their prayers were answered. Güven met Karen in person at the Istanbul airport. When Güven held Karen's hand for the first time he knew that he wanted to marry her. On November 26th, Güven took Karen out to dinner at a vineyard in Izmir. He made her a paper ring with a folded heart in the middle. He smiled and said, "Will you marry me?" And she said... "YES and EVET!" Then he pulled out a diamond ring from his suit jacket and placed it on her hand...and the rest is history!
Wedding
Apr 20,2022On April 20th, 2022, we were married in Izmir, Turkey in a small civil ceremony. With immigration and world events, it was difficult to have the first wedding with everyone we wished could be there. We are so grateful that you can celebrate our marriage with us! What a joyous day that we can be together as husband and wife!
